complementary therapies Offered by Fiona at the Yoga Practice

About Me:

I was first introduced to complementary therapies - which were very much in their infancy in the UK - while training as a general nurse at the Victoria infirmary in the 1970s. I read a book and looked at a chart of the feet – the therapy was called Reflexology and hardly anyone knew what it was or the benefits that could be gained from having a treatment. It sparked an interest in me that has spanned many years. Today I am still learning from my clients, of the complex relationships we have

between our minds, our bodies and our spirits. After completing my nursing training, I gained valuable experience nursing voluntarily in India and then here in Scotland for some years before finally embarking on a professional Reflexology course in the 1990s, with further training in all aspects of maternity reflexology. I also undertook post-qualifying training in the use of reflexology and Multiple Sclerosis in 2005. Professional training in clinical Aromatherapy massage soon followed and naturally progressed to training in Reiki – now at level 3 teacher - and then onto Tsuboki Japanese facial massage. My most recent training has been in clinical Hypnotherapy, and cognitive behavioural Hypnotherapy- both in 2018

Therapies on offer:

Reflexology

Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing non-invasive touch therapy where points of feet or hands – which correspond to various parts of the body - are worked on by the therapist’s hands and fingers. It promotes a feeling of well-being and can therefore be helpful for those who are experiencing stress. It has been reported that it can be helpful for insomnia, migraines, IBS, and many aspects of hormonal imbalance

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that uses gentle touch to promote relaxation, well-being and healing. The word ‘Reiki’ means universal life energy and the therapist places their hands on various parts of the client’s, body. It is a fully clothed treatment, and you only need to remove your shoes before lying down on the comfortable therapy table

Maternity Reflexology

Pregnancy reflexology is a complementary therapy that uses pressure and massage on specific points of the body to help with the physical and emotional needs of pregnant women.

It's based on the idea that certain areas of the body correspond to specific points on the feet, hands, ears, and face

Tsuoki

A Japanese facial massage is a wonderfully relaxing yet energizing treatment for those who want to feel good on the inside and look good on the outside. Based in part on the principles of acupressure, it is a modern take on meridian theory, which goes back thousands of years in Japan and China.

TSUBO = acupressure point – this is a place along a meridian where the energy can be most easily influenced, affecting the body on many levels.

KI = the energy that flows through the meridians. In short, it is a ‘full body’ massage and natural facelift combined into a relaxing and restorative health-giving treatment.

Clinical Aromatherapy massage

clinical Hypnotherapy, and cognitive behavioral Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is a type of psychological therapy that uses hypnosis to help treat physical and mental health conditions. It involves a trained professional guiding a patient into a trance state to help them achieve positive change

Using only the highest quality organically sourced base and essential oils, the specific blend is gently applied to the part of the body before being massaged. You choose the desired:

combination e.g., back, neck and shoulders, legs and feet; or perhaps arms, hands, and face massage. It should be noted that clinical aromatherapy massage is a very gentle and relaxing treatment
